This qualification is designed to:
• lead directly into self-employment or employment as a reflexologist.
• Enable progression to a First Degree in Health Sciences in a number of Higher Education Programmes in UK universities.
• It is a prerequisite to relevant post graduate programmes.
• Develop essential knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of reflexology.

Qualification Objectives

The objective of the OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Applied Reflexology for Integrated Medicine qualification is to give learners the opportunities to develop knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of reflexology and to then expand upon this by advancing their conceptual and their practical knowledge.

Learners will study eight units, worth a total of 120 credits over one academic year.

Principles of Safe Practice for Clinical Practitioner Reflexology

  • Understand safety, health and welfare principles and practice for Reflexology.
  • Understand the importance of effective record keeping for all treatments within reflexology. 
  • Understand the legislative and regulatory governance of reflexology practice.

Anatomy, Physiology and Psychology in Illness and Health

  • Understand the structure and function of body systems.
  • Understand the structure and function of the feet and hands.
  • Explain the body systems reflected onto the structures in the feet and hands.
  • Understand health and illness as reflected in the feet and hands in a clinical reflexology context.
  • Understand how homeostasis promotes recovery.
  • Understand the biopsychosocial model and its relevance in illness and health.

Clinical Reflexology and Reflected Anatomy

  • Be able to perform preparation and relaxation techniques.
  • Be able to reflect the body (macro) onto the feet (micro) for reflexology.
  • Be able to carry out case studies of clinical reflexology practice.
  • Be able to perform foundation clinical reflexology practice.

Developmental Reflexology, Pathology and Integrated Medicine

  • Be able to apply Reflexology practice through clinical assessment, analysis, evaluation, and critical review.  
  • Understand how malfunctioning of human anatomy and physiology of macro systems can lead to illness.
  • Understand how to structure a bespoke Clinical Reflexology treatment to a range of conditions. 
  • Be able to provide Clinical Reflexology for life limiting and chronic illness.
  • Understand collaborative care and Partnership working.
  • Be able to provide Clinical Reflexology for Men’s Health.
  • Be able to provide Clinical Reflexology to promote for Male and Female fertility.

  • Be able to provide Applied Reflexology for a range of Life Stages
  • Be able to provide Applied Reflexology to support maternal health.

  • Be able to provide Applied Reflexology for an alternative micro reflection other than the feet. 

Evidence Based Practice for Reflexology

  • Understand historical perspectives and their influence on modern day reflexology.
  • Understand the theories and tenets that underpin reflexology practice: 
  • Be able to develop, apply and adapt reflexology skills to create a bespoke, individualised treatment plan.

Business Fundamentals for Reflexology Practice

  • Understand the steps necessary to set up and run a reflexology business.
  • Understand the importance of business planning.
  • Know the financial requirements of setting up a business.
  • Be able to summarise revenue projection as a self-employed Reflexology Practitioner
  • Understand entrepreneurial opportunities for business growth as a reflexology business.

You will receive a detailed manual for each and you will learn the latest and most innovative techniques in the UK and beyond.

Duopody

Students learn Duopody, a highly effective system-by-system approach to reflexology, working on both feet simultaneously, but we will also cover the Original Ingham method, which most reflexologists in the UK have traditionally been trained to use.

Professional level training

The OTHM Level 5 Diploma in Applied Reflexology for Integrated Medicine is awarded by OTHM through our partnership with Centralia in Wales. The Diploma is under the sector Nursing and Subjects and Vocations Allied to Medicine and is in line with National Occupational Standards.

  • There are 8 units 
  • 7 of which are at level 5 
  • 1 unit at level 6.
